IN.SITU photo - The "New Créteil"

an open sky museum of modern architecture
in the Greater Paris

Fifty years ago, 6 km south-east of Paris, Créteil was designated the capital of the new department / administrative district of Val-de-Marne. To give the new departmental capital public facilities corresponding to its status, the "New Créteil" was born on virgin land. Thus, in the 1970s, the first phase of this urbanization program led to the construction of buildings experiencing new forms.

Between soft curves and acute angles, between advocacy for technology and manifest for a plant architecture, these buildings affirm their faith in modernity and their place in the urban space. Today, these buildings with singular forms represent so many sculptures arranged in an open-air museum of modern architecture.

At the time of the birth of the Greater Paris, this photographic series returns to the emblematic figures of the New Créteil, with the ambition to show the quality of a modern architectural heritage too often reduced to its drifts.
